In order to determine the gaps in the maturity level of your PMO, you need to understand the Current maturity level and the Target maturity level.

This step allows you to take the overall objectives of your PMO and break them down in a structured manner to the 15 PMO disciplines covered in the review.

This will mean you can determine the Target maturity level by each of the 15 PMO disciplines that in turn will allow you to determine the gaps that need to be addressed.

There will be a number of stakeholders for the PMO Maturity Assessment including the review sponsor.

The Objectives step allows the stakeholders to be captured, their roles understood and a selection of those that will provide an input into the assessment.

The Stakeholder template also allows the tracking of who has or has not returned their assessment so you can chase and escalate as needed.

This is the "engine" for the PMO Maturity Assessment.

Through a series of questions for each of the 15 PMO disciplines, it allows each person taking part in the assessment to provide their input on both current and target maturity level for each of the PMO disciplines.

The Data Capture form can be fully customised to add, update and remove questions.  It has useful control summaries to allow you to quickly check that each form has been completed.

The output is the overall maturity level for both current and target state by discipline and overall.  All of the information is available in a graph and table.

You will probably be seeking input from a number of participants in order to truly understand the maturity level of your PMO.

The Consolidation step gives you the tools to take multiple Data Capture templates and consolidate the summaries so that you can determine the overall maturity level based on all of the inputs.

When you have completed the data capture, you will have some very powerful insights and findings.

It is important that the information is presented to all stakeholders in a simple, easy to understand format so that action can be taken.

The Management Report step provides you with a template that you can quickly populate using the information captured in the different steps of the process.

This saves time and gives you a professional report to present to your sponsors so action can be taken!

When you have completed the assessment and analysed the findings, you should know where you have maturity gaps and agreed priorities of what to close first.

The only way to improve is to execute the actions to close the gaps.

The Action Plan step helps you define the objectives and actions to close gaps.  Assign owners and target dates so that the actions can be tracked, closed and the level of maturity improved.
